Funky Design Tools

Owner and sole builder. Design to deploy.

Cropping one photo into every size a platform asks for is slow, repetitive work. I built a tool that exports the set in one pass, then developed it into Funky Design Tools, my own free collection of browser-based tools.

The brief

The idea began with a tool I built for HR Grapevine's editorial workflow. I developed my own product separately, with its own code, brand and website.

The main design problem was making repeated image work easier to manage, without sending anyone's files to a server.

Set up the exports once.

The batch cropper exports every image at each preset in the set. Each preset has its own size, file format and quality setting, and the results download together as one ZIP.

Face auto-focus gives each crop a starting point. When the composition needs adjusting, the editor has drag, zoom and rotation.

Export presets with individual size, format and quality settings.

Keep the image on the user's machine.

Images are processed in the browser, so there's no upload step and I don't need to store the artwork people use.

The other tools in the collection work the same way.

Make the tools easier to try.

I built and tested accounts and billing, then removed them in September 2026, before anyone was charged. The tools are now free, with no sign-in and an optional tip jar.

A shared tool registry keeps the product navigation and public pages aligned as the collection changes.

Where it stands

Funky Design Tools launched on 7 September 2026 and is free to use, with no account needed. What began as a batch cropper now has its own identity, interface and collection of browser tools.
